Terminally ill man is fined for possessing class B drug

The Magistrates Court

A TERMINALLY ill man has been fined 拢400 for possession of cannabis 鈥 but said he needed it to treat his pain.

Paul Anthony Louis (68) was caught with cannabis resin in the Caesarea pub on 10 July and again in Parade Gardens on 12 August.

He admitted the offences and Advocate Greg Herold-Howes, defending, conceded that his client had 鈥渁 very lengthy record鈥.

But he added that Louis was suffering from sclerosis of the liver and had been given one year to live, and the drugs helped to alleviate his pain.

Relief Magistrate David Le Cornu imposed 拢200 fines for each offence and allowed him to pay at the rate of 拢30 per month.
